HON8428 V6 Luxury model shown on cover. THE DREAM TO CREATE THE MOST TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED FULL-SIZE PASSENGER CAR. V6 Luxury model shown. The Accord is the breakthrough car for today. The Honda Accord is the most impressive Accord ever built - with maximum power, maximum space and maximum fuel efficiency. In fact, it’s among the largest and most powerful cars in its class. It’s also amongst the most fuel efficient. It’s a car that’s a cut above the others. A car that combines technology and luxury in a superbly designed form. A car that’s bigger - and better. The Accord is available with two engines - the powerful, yet economical 2.4 litre, four cylinder, i-VTEC engine, and the 3.5 litre V6 with the revolutionary Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology. It achieves extraordinarily low emissions and high fuel efficiency by using six, four and even three cylinders as circumstances require. Each engine is powerful and efficient. Each, in fact, is among the most powerful in its class. But the Accord isn’t simply a triumph of Honda’s engineering and technology. It’s also an expressive and spacious design, combining performance, comfort, style and, above all, safety. Its powerful presence eloquently expresses the thought that has gone into its engineering. The Accord sits confidently on the road - a muscular, sporty statement - the aggressive nose hinting at the power that lurks beneath. Inside is an interior that provides space and comfort for five adults. Available in a VTi, VTi Luxury and V6 Luxury, Honda brings together space, comfort, power, fuel efficiency and sheer driveability in the Accord. But it’s the amazing technology that makes this a car to enjoy - with power, performance and superb handling. The Accord is innovative and luxurious. It is a driver’s car. Some day, perhaps, all cars will be built this way. Until then, there is only the Accord. The luxurious, large car with revolutionary Variable Cylinder Management technology. V6 Luxury model shown. The Accord 3.5 litre V6. The measure of success. This is a V6 which isn’t always a 6 cylinder. Sometimes it’s a 4 cylinder, or even a 3. The Accord’s 3.5 litre, i-VTEC V6 engine produces 202kW of power, which means this isn’t just the most powerful Accord ever, it’s also among the most powerful cars in its class. However this is a car that breaks through class barriers - it will match or out-perform “performance” vehicles from classes outside the segment (and outside the price range). But these days power alone is not the point. The art is to generate as many kilowatts as possible, with the least fuel consumption. This is the genius of Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology. This is a V6 which isn’t always a V6. Sometimes it’s a 4, or even a 3. The Accord 3.5 litre V6 works like you do. Sometimes you’re going full tilt. You need all six cylinders to get up to speed in the morning. Or you’re accelerating, heading uphill, racing to meet a deadline. Once you’ve got going, you can at times maintain your momentum with just four cylinders. And when you’re taking it easy, you only need three. That’s exactly how the Accord’s V6 Variable Cylinder Management engine works. Whenever high power output is required (during start-up, acceleration or when climbing hills) V6 Luxury model shown. all six cylinders work smoothly and powerfully. During moderate speed cruising and at low engine loads, the system operates just one bank of three cylinders. In some conditions, for higher speed cruising and not-so-steep hills, the engine operates on four cylinders - it’s powerful, silent and incredibly efficient. In fact it operates so smoothly you won’t even notice it’s happening. You may notice the discreet economy light on the dash which indicates that the car is operating in the range of best fuel economy for the current driving conditions. It’s a system that combines two characteristics that don’t typically coexist in conventional engines: maximum performance and maximum fuel economy. But words like “performance” and “technology” are cold and dry. The real qualities of the Accord only become apparent when you’re on the road. For this is a country of open roads and the Accord is made for them. The endless, unbroken lines that cross from east to west, north to south. The quiet backroads, through rolling farmland. The tight twists and turns of a winding mountain road. The double strip of the freeway at night. It’s here that you fully experience the magic of the Accord. Pass here and go on. You’re on the road to heaven. And if, from time to time, you have to be stuck in commuter traffic there’s no better place to be than in an Accord. Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) 6 cylinder. The V6 VCM engine will only use all six cylinders when it needs the power, like during start-up, acceleration or when climbing hills. 6 4 cylinder. Usage drops from six to four at high cruising speeds or on mild inclines. 4 3 cylinder. At cruising speeds and with low engine loads the VCM engine will run on just one bank of three cylinders. CYLINDER VCM CYLINDER VCM 3 CYLINDER VCM The 2.4 litre engine in the Accord is very close to perfection. Like its big brother, the four cylinder, 2.4 litre Accord is also among the most powerful in its class. Its DOHC i-VTEC valvetrain system produces 133kW of power and 222Nm of torque. This comes, in part, from a high compression ratio and related engine tuning. And at 8.8L/100km*, the engine’s impressive performance is matched by equally impressive fuel consumption and low CO2 emissions. These qualities are a result of us constantly challenging ourselves. Our aim is always to find that perfect balance between power and fuel efficiency. The Accord 2.4 litre, four cylinder. The Power of four. The 2.4 litre engine in the Accord is getting very close to perfection. VTi model shown. * Fuel consumption figure based on ADR81/02 combined test results for Accord The Accord is most emphatically a driver’s car. VTi Luxury model shown. Plush leather† interior. Stylish, modern, luxurious and now more spacious. † V6 Luxury model shown. Leather interior includes some PVC vinyl material 1 2 VTi Luxury model shown. VTi Luxury model shown. The art of space. The philosophy behind the Accord’s interior was very simple: maximum space and maximum comfort. Achieving this was more than a simple design exercise. 3 4 V6 Luxury model shown. V6 Luxury model shown. The Accord is larger, to accommodate a more comfortable interior. The additional space makes seating as comfortable for rear passengers as it is for those in the front. Five adults can enjoy the drive comfortably, no matter how long the journey. But it’s not just about size. It’s about the thought that has gone into the layout of the interior. The internal geometry of the Accord is so ingeniously conceived that it does, in fact, feel even roomier than it is. Nor is it simply spacious. The elegant yet modern interior also indulges and pampers. The front seats are broader and more comfortable, with supportive side bolsters to help keep the driver and front passenger securely in position during cornering. The rear seat has substantially more legroom, more than enough for three adults, with a clean flowing style that mirrors the rest of the interior. The fold-down rear seatback increases cargo-carrying versatility and includes a pass-through. Both are lockable. Of course it’s not just the space that’s important. It’s what happens within that space. The Accord is most emphatically a driver’s car and this is an interior that has been designed for drivers. The driving position is dynamic and intuitive. The information display is logical and easy to read. Operation-related instruments are located high, close to the driver’s eye-line, while other instruments are located 5 V6 Luxury model shown. lower down. At night, the controls are further distinguished by colour between climate controls and audio controls. Standard features include dual zone climate control, six stack CD player with six speakers, power steering, cruise control, paddle shift gears, power windows and mirrors, security alarm system and keyless entry. V6 Luxury features include satellite navigation, sunroof, leather† interior, driver’s seat memory, heated seats, rain sensor wipers and a reversing camera. 1 Audio system/sound system. Comes equipped with a six stack CD player, six speakers (plus a subwoofer in the V6 Luxury model) and an auxiliary input jack. 2 Paddle shift gears. There to make the Accord experience just that little bit more exciting if ever you choose it. 3 Variable Cylinder Management (VCM). To improve fuel efficiency of the V6 engine, the VCM system can switch between six, four and three cylinders depending on required output. 4 Plush leather interior. Stylish, modern, luxurious and now more spacious (Luxury models only). † 5 Driving position. The dynamic and logical information display makes for an improved driving position. Leather interior includes some PVC vinyl material † Safety. The Accord that’s designed by you, for you. VTi Luxury model shown. For many years at Honda we’ve made an active commitment to make the world a safer place. This is certainly the case in the Accord. Its sophisticated safety technology has been designed not only to avoid collisions but also to minimise any injury if an accident becomes unavoidable. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control and an electronic, four wheel disc, Anti-lock Brake System are both standard. Honda G Force Control (G-Con) technology allows us to create a body with crash safety characteristics that are among the best in the world. G-Con works on the principle that in the event of a collision, the car absorbs the impact in order to protect the occupants. The car’s body-shell creates a G-Con cage that cocoons the occupants inside. Collapsible body sections absorb the impact of a collision to the highest standard and prevent it from reaching the cabin. In the event of a frontal collision the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure absorbs the impact and keeps the passenger compartment secure. A network of load-bearing front frame structures absorbs crash energy far more effectively than conventional designs. Dual stage, dual threshold, driver and front passenger airbags, driver and front passenger dual-chamber side airbags and full length curtain airbags in all models provide maximum protection. A passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) protects passengers, particularly children, who may be too close when the side airbag deploys. Front seatbelts have automatic tensioning and load limiters, and passenger-side seatbelt reminders are easily viewed on the dashboard display. Each front seat is fitted with an innovative active head restraint to help reduce the severity of neck injuries in the event of a rear impact. V6 Luxury model shown. VTi model shown. What if we had our own solar cell production company? Obviously the world would be a better place and the good news is, such a car already exists: The FCX Clarity. It works by converting hydrogen into electricity, which leaves you with only one emission, H2O. And in 2008, this totally new fuel-cell vehicle went into production. In recent times Honda has branched out into mass solar cell production. Honda’s unique C.I.G.S solar cell produces the highest level of conversion efficiency in the thin film category and only requires half the energy to manufacture, so it’s environmentally friendly throughout its entire life. Why does a vehicle company produce solar cells? Purely so we know that we are doing everything possible to help prevent global warming. What if a plane had its engines mounted on top of the wing? Well, it would be original and it would be called the HondaJet. Secondly, the engines would have to be in a special position on the wing we call ‘The Sweet Spot’. That would then result in less drag at high speeds, 30% better fuel economy and because there is no need for structural engine mounts on the fuselage, 30% more cabin space. What if we tested our new technologies in the most extreme conditions possible? At Honda we have always believed that racing is fundamental to our development. It’s the ultimate testing ground and regardless of whether we win or lose, the same question is always asked – how can we improve performance? And you can be sure that for every improvement made on the track, there is an equal improvement made to every Honda vehicle that hits the road. What if our technology was more... alive? ASIMO, the World’s Most Advanced Humanoid Robot, was born from a dream to create a robot that could benefit people in everyday life. His name stands for Advanced Step in Innovative MObility, a title he’s definitely worthy of. Currently ASIMO’s capabilities include: running at 6 km/h, walking on uneven surfaces, turning smoothly, climbing stairs, pushing a cart, receiving and delivering trays and he can even dance a little boogie if the occasion calls for it. Our dream is that one day, everyone will have an ASIMO of their own to help around the home or office. Accord Specifications. Colours.
