We recommend that you map out a specific road test course that includes a variety of road conditions including stop and go, highway speed and rough road surfaces. This will help you check for squeaks, rattles, drifts, pulls and a variety of other conditions that must be corrected prior to delivery. NOTE: Make sure protective covers are in place on the seats and carpet prior to starting the road test. F01. INITIALIZATION OF VGRS SYSTEM The DCC fuse is removed at the assembly plant to reduce parasitic current draw from the battery during transport and storage. As a result of the removal of the DCC fuse, the VGRS system will be inoperative and the steering wheel may become off-center in accordance with the steering wheel turning angle at the time when the DCC fuse was removed. After the DCC fuse is installed to its original location, the VGRS system will be operative but the steering wheel may become off-center by 5-10 degrees to the right or left. When the battery terminal has been disconnected, this condition may also appear. Therefore, please initialize the VGRS system in accordance with the following procedure after installing the DCC fuse to its original location or reconnecting the battery terminal. NOTE: Do not adjust the steering wheel centering (i.e., do not adjust tie rod ends) before initialization of the VGRS system, or the steering may be off-center on the opposite side after initialization. a) Find a place to drive straight for at least 5 seconds at a speed greater than 22 mph (35 km / h). Then drive the vehicle on a straight road at 22 mph (35 km / h) or more for 5 seconds or longer. At this point, the steering wheel will still remain off-center by 5-10 degrees. After this, make several right and left turns. The speed when turning is not critical. NOTE: In this step, the neutral position of the steering wheel is recorded in the VGRS ECU memory. 64 2006MY GS430/300 F. ROAD TEST (Continued) b) After turning the steering wheel from lock to lock at the speed of less than 90 _/sec with the vehicle at a standstill, drive straight again and the steering wheel should be centered. Confirm steering wheel is centered: Steering wheel is centered - Initialization Complete. Steering wheel is off-center - Proceed to step “c” c) Confirm initialization has been completed. 1. Access the VGRS data list using the Lexus Diagnostic Tester. 2. Confirm the STRAIGH ANG FLG parameter reads VALID. NOTE: Prior to initialization, the STRAIGH ANG FLG parameter will read INVALID. When the VGRS initialization procedure is complete, the STRAIGH ANG FLG parameter will change to VALID. D If VALID and steering is off-center, refer to the steering wheel off-center diagnostic procedure in the repair manual . D If INVALID, return to step “b” and perform driving procedure again.
