Take it up to its 7,300-rpm redline, and the Active Sport Exhaust delivers a potent, full-throated engine howl unlike anything you’ve ever heard. Or felt. A 10-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission with magnesium paddle shifters was specifically designed for the LC. This exclusive transmission has one of the fastest shift times among conventional automatic transmissions,4 changing gears in 0.12 seconds. Or, half the time it takes the average human to blink. Which meant going to extremes. Decades of takumi craftsmanship and a tradition of relentless engineering and refinement were taken even further. Everything was pushed to the limit to deliver this high-performance, high-strength coupe. A high-tensile steel chassis was built to lower the driving position by just 10 millimeters. Intake valves were made of titanium to make them a few grams lighter. An available carbon fiber roof was developed to lower the vehicle’s center of gravity. Lightweight carbon fiber–reinforced sheet-molding compound allowed the complex shape of the inner doors to be molded as a single piece, and the outer doors were engineered with 6000-series aluminum that’s 47% lighter than its steel counterpart. Materials were evaluated by weight, strength, mass and optimal placement. A single character line that took months to perfect. A total of 700 individual engineering checkpoints verified by two of our most skilled craftsmen. An available high-back sport seat that required over 50 prototypes to achieve the ideal driving posture. Any sacrifice of design or performance was unacceptable. No detail was spared when creating the LC. The painstakingly crafted steering wheel, which provides optimal grip when cornering, is the result of countless hours of testing and track development with Lexus takumi masters. Alcantara®5 -trimmed door panels with deep, flowing lines form a distinctive look and feel. A leather-trimmed shift knob was crafted from four strips of high-quality leather that were then meticulously hand-sewn. And ambient illumination accentuates the bold contours and details throughout the cabin. To take interior comfort even further, a Climate Concierge system integrates climate control, heated and ventilated seating as well as an available heated steering wheel. Every element of the LC was carefully considered to elevate the driver’s connection to the road. Even the alignment of the driver’s hip point with the vehicle’s center of gravity was studied carefully. Because extreme craftsmanship isn’t only about creating an exceptional finished product. This system23 utilizes a camera to monitor visible lane markings. If an inadvertent or potential lane departure is detected, it’s designed to warn you and can take slight corrective measures. And, if Dynamic Radar Cruise Control24 is engaged, the system can even help you remain in the center of the visibly marked lane, helping to prevent drifting before it occurs. This system24 uses radar and camera technology to help you maintain a preset speed and following distance from the vehicle ahead. Whether at highway speeds or in stop-and-go traffic, the system is designed to detect if you get closer than the preset distance and automatically slow your vehicle—even to a complete stop. If driving at highway speeds and the road ahead clears, your Lexus returns to its preset speed. To help provide greater visibility for you as well as other drivers, Intelligent High Beams25 offer added illumination to help keep you focused on the road. When you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a SmartAccess fob into the vehicle, the key transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will only start if the code in the transponder chip inside the key/fob matches the code in the vehicle’s immobilizer. Because the transponder chip is embedded in the key/fob, it can be costly to replace. If you lose a key or fob, your Lexus dealer can help.
