This Quick Reference Guide was designed to help you quickly get to know the many features of your new Mariner. TURN SIGNAL, HEADLAMP AND AUTOLAMP CONTROL Turning the headlamp control up to the first position turns on the parking lamps. Continuing to turn the headlamp control to the second position, turns on the headlamps. To activate the high beams, push the lever forward to the instrument panel. Pull the lever towards you to deactivate them. Use the same lever to activate the “Flash to Pass” feature. Pull the lever towards you to the first detent to activate and release to deactivate. The battery saver will shut off the exterior lamps 10 minutes after the ignition has been turned off, if the headlamp control is in the position. To use the autolamp light sensitive, automatic on-off control (if equipped) for the headlamps, turn the headlamp control down to the AUTO position. To turn autolamps off, turn the control back to the OFF position. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide. 02. POWER SIDE VIEW MIRRORS 03. FOG LAMP CONTROL The fog 04. PANEL DIMMER CONTROL Use the 05. TILT STEERING WHEEL LEVER To Rotate the control clockwise to adjust the right mirror, and counterclockwise to adjust the left mirror. Then move the control in the direction you wish to tilt the mirror. Return the control to the center position to lock the mirrors in place. lamps can be turned on when the headlamp control is in the parking lamp or headlamp position and the high beams are not on. Press the control to turn on the fog lamps. The fog lamp indicator light will illuminate. Press again to deactivate. Remember, the fog lamps will not operate when the high beams are on. Push and hold the top of the control to brighten. Push and hold the bottom of the control to dim. adjust the steering wheel, push the adjustment lever down to unlock the steering column. While the lever is in the down position, tilt the steering column to your desired position. Then, while holding the steering column in place, pull the lever up to its original position to lock the steering column. 06. MESSAGE CENTER 07. COMPASS (If equipped) The message center, located on your instrument cluster, displays important vehicle information through constant monitoring of vehicle systems. You may select display features on the message center for a display of status preceded by a brief indicator chime. The system will also notify you of potential vehicle problems with a display of system warnings followed by a long indicator chime. (If equipped) The compass heading (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W or NW) is displayed in the message center display. The compass reading may be affected when you drive by large buildings, power lines and powerful broadcast antennas. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide. 08. FRONT AND REAR WIPER WASHER CONTROL The multi- function lever controls the windshield wiper modes, speeds, and the windshield washer. For intermittent operation, move the lever down one position. You can then adjust the rotary control to the desired speed. For normal or low speed wiper operation, move the lever down two positions from OFF. For high speed operation, move the lever down three positions from OFF. For windshield washer fluid, pull the end of the stalk towards you. Move the lever up and release for one wipe. REAR: Rotate the end of the lever upward to the position for intermittent operation. Rotate the end of the lever upward to ON for normal-speed operation. Rotate and release the end of the lever to the position to activate the rear washer. 09. AUDIOPHILE SATELLITE COMPATIBLE IN-DASH SIX-CD RADIO (If equipped) Please see reverse side for details. 10. SPEED CONTROL For your speed control to work, it must be in the ON position. Pressing and releasing the ON button will engage it. Pressing and releasing the OFF button disengages it. Speed control does not work at speeds below 30 mph (48 km/h). To set a desired speed, press SET ACC. You can increase speed using the speed control by pressing and holding SET ACC. You can decrease speed by pressing and holding using the CST button. Pressing the RSM control will automatically return the vehicle to the previously set speed. To disengage the speed control, press the OFF button or press the brake pedal. 11. HAZARD FLASHER CONTROL Push the flasher control and all front and rear direction signals will flash. Use it when your vehicle is disabled or is creating a safety hazard for other motorists. The hazard flashers will operate when the ignition is in any position or if the key is not in the ignition. 12. REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER CONTROL / HEATED OUTSIDE MIRRORS Ensure that the ignition is in the RUN position. Press the control to clear the rear window of thin ice and fog. The LED will illuminate. The rear defroster turns off automatically after 15 minutes or when the ignition is turned to LOCK. To manually turn off the rear defroster before 15 minutes have passed, push the control again. When the rear window defroster is activated, ice, mist and fog will be removed from both outside heated mirrors (if equipped). Like the rear window defroster, the mirrors have an auto timeout feature that will turn the system off after 15 minutes. 13. REVERSE SENSING SYSTEM (If equipped) This system sounds a tone to warn the driver of obstacles near the rear bumper, when R (Reverse) is selected and the vehicle is moving at speeds less than 3 mph (5km/h). The closer you get to the obstacle, the more the rate of the tone increases. When an obstacle is less than 10 inches (25 cm) away, the tone sounds continuously. The system is not effective at speeds above 3 mph (5 km/h) and may not detect certain angular or moving objects. 14. CLIMATE CONTROL Please see reverse side for details. 01. SERVICE ENGINE SOON LAMP The warning lamp will momentarily illuminate when the ignition is turned on. If the light doesn’t illuminate, stays on or flashes, have your vehicle serviced. In an emergency, apply continuous force to the brake pedal. Do not pump the brakes. Any pulsation or mechanical noise you may feel or hear is normal. (If equipped) Four Wheel Drive is capable of handling various road conditions, including street and highway driving as well as off-road and winter driving. The 4WD indicator light illuminates when the ignition is first turned to the RUN position, to check the bulb. Solid illumination indicates system requires service. A blinking indicator indicates the system has disengaged due to heat protection mode. frequency pressure sensors, this system monitors tire pressure on all road tires and provides the driver with a yellow warning light when air needs to be added. Message center equipped vehicles provide additional warning messages. The TPMS warning light will reset itself (turn off ) after the tires are reset to specification and the vehicle is driven above 20 mph (30 km/h) for two minutes. Please note: Outside temperature affects tire pressure. Service Engine Soon lamp illuminates when the ignition is first turned to the RUN position, to check the bulb. If the light turns solid or blinks, the On-Board Diagnostics System has detected a malfunction. Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavy acceleration or deceleration) and have your vehicle serviced immediately. FUSES If your electrical components aren’t working properly, a fuse may have blown. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide. FUEL PUMP SHUT-OFF SWITCH This device stops the electric fuel pump from sending fuel to the engine when your vehicle has had a substantial jolt. After an accident, if you find that the engine cranks, but does not start, this switch may have been activated. The fuel pump shut-off switch is in the front passenger’s footwell, behind a flip-up cover, by the kick panel access cover. LOCATION OF SPARE TIRE AND TOOLS The jack and tools are either under the carpeted floorboard or in the right rear of the cargo area behind an access panel. The spare tire is under the rear of the vehicle. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide. TIRE PRESSURE Safe operation of your Mariner requires your tires to be properly inflated. The recommended inflation pressure is found on the tire label or the Safety Compliance Certification Label on the driver’s door or B-Pillar. At least once a month and before long trips, inspect each tire and check the air pressure with a tire gauge. Don’t forget the spare. Air pressure should be checked when the tires are cold. WARNING: Improperly inflated tires can affect vehicle handling and can fail suddenly, resulting in a possible loss of vehicle control. CHANGING THE TIRES If you get a flat tire while driving, do not apply the brake heavily. Instead, gradually decrease your speed. Hold the steering wheel firmly and slowly move to a safe place onto the side of the road. Your vehicle is equipped with a temporary spare tire, which is smaller than a regular tire, and is designed for emergency use only. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE In addition to your New Vehicle Limited Warranty, Ford Motor Company provides new vehicle owners with a complimentary roadside assistance program. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for three years or 36,000 miles. It covers changing a flat tire, jump starts, limited fuel delivery, lock-out assistance, and towing your vehicle. Call 800-241-3673 for Roadside Assistance. FUEL TANK CAPACITY Vehicles equipped with 2.3L four-cylinder engines and 3.0L six-cylinder engines have 16.5 gallon (62.5L) fuel tanks. REAR WINDOW BUFFETING When one or both of your rear windows are open, the vehicle may demonstrate a wind throb or buffeting noise. This is common among a wide range of vehicles and can be eliminated by simply lowering a front window two to three inches. 01. FAN SPEED CONTROL Rotate the knob to adjust the volume of air circulated in the vehicle. 02. MAX A/C Uses recirculated air to cool the vehicle. MAX A/C is louder than A/C, but is more economical and cools the interior faster. Airflow will be directed from the instrument panel vents. It automatically returns to normal /clear when the vehicle is placed in R (Reverse). 10. TEMPERATURE CONTROL Rotate the knob to adjust the temperature of the airflow inside the vehicle. REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM (If equipped) Your vehicle may be equipped with a remote entry system which allows you to lock or unlock the vehicle’s doors without a key. Press the unlock button once to unlock the driver’s door, twice to unlock all doors. Pressing the lock button once will lock all doors and the park/turn lamps will flash once. Pressing the button a second time will chirp the horn to confirm that all doors are closed and locked. It also allows you to arm your personal alarm. AUDIOPHILE SATELLITE COMPATIBLE IN-DASH SIX-CD/MP3_RADIO (if equipped) TWO STEP UNLOCKING To unlock the driver’s door, turn the key in the door cylinder once toward the front of the vehicle. Turn the key a second time to unlock all passenger doors, liftgate and liftgate glass. To lock all doors, liftgate and liftgate glass, turn the key toward the back of the vehicle once. SECURILOCK™ PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM This system KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD You can use the Keyless Entry Keypad to lock or unlock the doors without a key. The keypad can be operated with the factory set five-digit entry code or you can create your own. This code is on the owner’s wallet card in the glove box. Enter this code and within five seconds press the 1•2 on the keypad. Enter your personal five-digit code. The doors will again lock then unlock, to confirm that your personal keycode has been programmed to the module. is designed to help prevent the engine from being started unless a coded key programmed to your vehicle is used. Your SecuriLock™ system is armed immediately after switching the ignition to the LOCK position. The theft indicator will flash every two seconds when the vehicle is armed. Switching the ignition to the RUN position with a coded key disarms the system. Your vehicle comes with two coded keys. Additional coded keys can be purchased from your authorized dealer. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide. HEATED FRONT SEATS (If equipped) To activate heated seats, push the control located on the side of the seat.
